Liontrust shifts focus of multi-asset funds

13 June 2023

Liontrust has amended and rebranded its Multi-Asset Active funds with a greater focus on delivering returns.

The name of the range has changed to MA Explorer and the name of each of the underlying funds now shows their maximum equity allocations. The range includes MA Explorer 35, MA Explorer Income 45, MA Explorer Income 60 through to MA Explorer 70, MA Explorer 85 and MA Explorer 100.

Liontrust said the change is part of its drive to provide choice to advisers and ensure clarity over the purpose and objectives of each of the distinct ranges.

The renamed MA Explorer range of funds aims to maximise capital growth and/or income over the long term as a primary objective, while continuing to be risk profiled but no longer risk targeted, the fund manager said. Previously, the range had dual objectives of meeting a volatility target and generating growth and/or income.

John Husselbee, head of the Liontrust Multi-Asset team, said: “There are four key objectives for the changes we have made to our Multi-Asset fund ranges including the newly named MA Explorer. We want to ensure clarity and transparency so advisers and their clients are able to understand what they are investing in and how the funds can be used within their own portfolios.

“Second, we want to provide choice in terms of funds and portfolios, target risk and returns focused, and which underlying securities are held.

“Third, this choice and clarity is designed to enable us to help advisers and clients meet their suitability requirements.

“Fourth, we want consistency across all our multi-asset ranges in terms of the investment process and having the same principles behind the implementation of the process.”

The change follows the earlier announcement that Liontrust is working with Hymans Robertson to provide strategic asset allocations and Defaqto as provider of risk profile oversight services for the Multi-Asset funds and portfolios to ensure they have the required capability to meet the challenges and opportunities of investing over the next 10 years.
