EdenTree launches Big Swim with Alice Dearing

21 July 2023

EdenTree has launched the Big Swim in partnership with Alice Dearing, looking to raise 20k for the Black Swimming Association.

The swimming challenge will ask participants to collectively log lengths equal to 3,000km to unlock a £20k donation to the Black Swimming Association, the charity co-founded by Team GB athlete Alice Dearing.

The challenge will ask participants to collectively log their lengths between 26th July and 25th August. The distance is equal to Alice’s training in the run up to the Paris Olympics in 2024.

Reaching the 3,000km target will unlock a £20k charitable donation from EdenTree, which is part of the Benefact Group, one of the largest corporate donors in the UK.

The Benefact Group runs the annual Movement for Good Awards, a programme of giving that has already donated over £1m to charities and good causes in 2023.

The beneficiary will be the Black Swimming Association (BSA), a charitable organisation co-founded by Alice Dearing. The BSA aims to drive forward participation, inclusion and diversity in swimming for black, Asian and minority ethnic people.

Commenting on the challenge, Alice Dearing said: “I can’t wait for The Big Swim to get started. EdenTree’s mantra is performance with principles and the launch of this challenge showcases that philosophy in action. Through the challenge we’re aiming to get as many people as possible to enjoy the benefits of being in the pool and, in turn, raise funds to help more people participate in swimming at all levels. The challenge is designed for everybody, so whether you’re planning on doing one length or 100, there’s an opportunity for you to get involved.”

Andy Clark, CEO of EdenTree, said: “As an elite athlete and charitable campaigner, Alice is the embodiment of performance with principles. We’ve been proud to partner with Alice for a number of years now and the launch of The Big Swim is the latest way we’re supporting Alice’s mission to help more people benefit from a love of swimming. It’s an opportunity for swimmers of any ability to take part, to have fun and to do good in the community. We feel it’s the perfect way to fire the starting gun on Alice’s preparation for next year’s Paris Olympics.”

The challenge will be hosted on Strava with participants able to log lengths manually or via a wearable device. More information can be found HERE.
