Square Mile Investment Consulting and Research has formed a sustainability board to provide extra governance and guidance around the firm’s sustainability initiatives, research and products.
The board will provide strategic guidance in developing long-term sustainability strategies, monitor Square Mile’s sustainability performance and highlight areas for improvement. It will enhance the firm’s accountability for its sustainability commitments, engage with stakeholders and clients and help manage risk, Square Mile said.
Neville White will act as chair and brings with him 27 years experience as a consultant on ESG issues within the asset management industry. White will be joined by Bev Shah and Alan Whittle, who have both been appointed non-executive directors.
Shah is co-CEO of City Hive, a think tank and advocacy group working to build an inclusive investment management industry. Whittle is founder of Unburdened Solutions, a sustainability training and consultancy services provider to financial planning firms.
They will be joined by three internal stakeholders: Diane Earnshaw, Square Mile’s research & consulting director; Jake Moeller, associate director – responsible investment; and Scott Dakers, business development director.
Richard Romer-Lee, CEO of Square Mile, said it is “frequently difficult” to make like-for-like comparisons within the sustainable investment field as a result of the broad spectrum of strategies available.
“ We have invested heavily in ensuring that all our work in this area, whether our research, our sustainable investment solutions, or our consultancy, remains best in class.
“However, we also recognise the importance of independent, external governance to remove any element of subjectivity. We are therefore honoured to welcome three of the industry’s leading experts on sustainability to advise us in all our endeavours, as well as to hold us to account, should that ever be necessary,” he said.
