BTS launches AF5 Financial Planning Process Study Support
The AF5 Financial Planning Process is the mandatory unit of the CII’s Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning.
It’s an exam that focusses on the advice process, so is similar to the level 4 R06 exam, but AF5 asks questions relating to one fact find rather than two shorter case studies. To pass AF5, you’ll need to demonstrate detailed analysis and critical evaluation skills, as you would expect for a level 6 exam.
Up until now, there has been no study guide that candidates can use to learn about, and then practice, key question answering techniques; they have been reliant on using the seven practice tests offer by the CII and available on their website.
This is why BTS are proud to announce that they have designed an AF5 study guide in the same well-loved style as the BTS R0 equivalents; using plain English, and giving candidates lots of exercises and practice questions to help hone their advanced exam question-answering techniques.
What is the BTS AF5 study guide like?
The BTS AF5 study guide follows a similar format to well-loved BTS R0 study guides. It is made up of two parts; the main study guide and an accompanying Appendix.
The main study guide contains a logical breakdown of the syllabus and is packed full of examples, exercises and activities, all explained in an ‘adults in conversation’ fashion. It guides candidates through exam-style questions and has loads of hints and tips to make passing this mandatory unit more achievable.
The questions in the BTS AF5 study guide are based on three fact finds. Two of them form the basis of the many practice questions and activities we cover in the guide, and the third is used in a full specimen exam.
The fact finds are contained within the separate Appendix, together with the AF5-style tax tables. This makes it easy to have the fact finds open at the right section whilst practising questions; much more learner-friendly than including them within the main study guide and having to keep flicking backwards and forwards as you attempt practice questions.
How can BTS help candidates pass their AF5 exam?
The CII recommend a minimum of 150 study hours for this mandatory unit. Passing AF5 gets you 30 advanced credits.
Candidates who buy an analysis and learn questions and answers are not giving themselves the best possible chance of a first-time exam pass. As we all know, no-one knows exactly which questions will come up, and AF5 is designed to test your analysis skills to the limit.
Passing AF5 needs a ‘little and often’ approach when it comes to your study plan.
The BTS AF5 study plan has four parts to it; the aim being to set you up for first time exam success.
• First, BTS recommend candidates order and work through our study guide (which is unique in the marketplace).
This gradually walks you through the exam syllabus and the questions styles that have regularly appeared in past AF5 papers.
It will teach you the foundations of the correct question-answering techniques, which are so important to achieve a first-time exam pass
• The next stage is to complete in exam conditions and self-mark as many CII AF5 papers as you can.
-This part of the plan gets you practising the key question-answering techniques that you have learned from the study guide.
The final two stages take place once the exam fact find is released, approximately two and a half weeks before the exam sitting date.
• BTS run a remote one-day workshop based on the actual exam fact find.
This day walks you through some possible fact find questions and suggested answers, and covers off some of the technical areas that may appear in your exam.
• BTS also produce a full eLearning analysis of all the possible questions and answers that we think could be examined on the relevant AF5 fact find.
Including hints and tips after each question debrief, plus include relevant crib sheets on possible technical areas that could be examined.
