AIC launches educational video on VCTs

6 March 2021

The Association of Investment Companies (AIC) has released an educational video introducing venture capital trusts (VCTs).

‘Venture Capital Trusts Explained’* is an easy-to-understand animation explaining what VCTs are, what they invest in, the associated risks and the tax incentives on offer.

Annabel Brodie-Smith, communications director of the Association of Investment Companies (AIC), said: “A must-watch for anyone wanting to learn more about venture capital trusts, our easy-to-digest animation explains what VCTs are, the types of businesses they invest in, recent performance, tax benefits and more.

“VCTs are a vital part of our economy. They have been investing in cutting-edge UK businesses for over 25 years and have created tens of thousands of new jobs. Devasting human loss aside, the coronavirus and subsequent lockdowns have serious implications for the economy and providing investment and support to the most dynamic new companies has never been more important. Throughout the pandemic, VCTs have continued to invest in the UK’s most innovative science, healthcare and technology businesses, helping in the fight against COVID and allowing us to do more online whilst staying safe.

“It’s important to remember that VCTs are risky, and if investors are in any doubt as to whether they are suitable they should speak to a financial adviser.”
