Origo and cyber security specialist Beyond Encryption, are rolling out a secure email messaging system, Unipass Mailock, for advisers, platforms, providers and consumers.
Announcing the roll out at the FT&RC Empowering Advice Through Technology 2020 conference, Origo says it is making the service available to over 45,000 users of its Unipass Identity service as well as millions of consumers, with the target of making the solution the industry’s “go-to email security system.”
The system uses military-grade encryption combined with identity authentication capabilities. It lets advisers, paraplanners read and send secure emails with the assurance that they can only be opened by the intended recipient. It works on desktop and mobile devices.
From an audit perspective, advice firms can confirm when an identity verified recipient has opened the email and accessed attachments to help meet compliance requirements such as SM&CR, Mi-Fid and GDPR, consequentially reducing their business and client’s risk.
Anthony Rafferty, Managing Director Origo, said that cybercrime is an increasing threat to adviser businesses and their clients with criminals actively using technology to target unsecured emails and access sensitive and valuable information.
Financial services companies need to protect communications, brands and reputations against cybercrime, with email being one of the weakest links as it is sent beyond companies’ internal security systems.
“Unipass Mailock enables advice firms and providers to quickly adopt the service into their email processes, enabling them to securely communicate sensitive personal, financial, medical or policy information to their clients efficiently and securely safe in the knowledge that only the intended recipient can read and reply to the message,” Rafferty said.
Paul Holland, CEO and founder of Beyond Encryption pointed to the damage and distress caused by cybercrime, which he said, “can be catastrophic”.
“The industry needs an all-encompassing secure service to protect both itself and the individuals it serves.
“Origo’s reach through Unipass and its industry-critical services means a large percentage of providers, platforms, advisers and their clients can quickly be protected when communicating sensitive information. This will help to protect reputations and de-risk the industry’s communications.”
