Professional Paraplanner’s London Technical Insight Seminar (7 June 2023) felt like we’d returned to ‘normal’ post pandemic, says Professional Paraplanner editor Rob Kingsbury.
It’s crazy that it should have taken so long to get in-person events fully back on their feet but we live in a different world now to 2019. The popularity of in-person events has definitely been growing over the past year and with 80 people attending this day-long seminar – over 60 paraplanners – we were at capacity for the venue, with a waiting list of over 20 who we simply couldn’t accommodate this time around.
Video conferencing was fantastic during the pandemic and webinars have their place but as many people have said to me at our events over the past year, you can’t beat being in a room of your peers and having a personal interaction with the person in front of you – be that the presenter or a fellow paraplanner.
Today’s Technical Insight Seminar gave paraplanners a wealth of great technical content to take back to the office and start using with clients’ financial planning.
This included Fidelity Adviser Solutions’ Paul Squirrell talking on the retirement savings hierarchy; Les Cameron, head of technical at M&G Wealth (Pru) looking at the new tax landscape post the budget and why paraplanners should be reconsidering when they place money in GIA’s, as well as turning around tax questions from the audience; Stephen McPhillips of Dentons taking a deep dive into pension death benefits; HSBC Life tackling tax and estate planning and the role of onshore bonds in investment; Waverton Investment Management balancing investment history with forward thinking strategy; and rounding it all off, Luiza Todd and Natalie Dawes of BTS providing fantastic insight into strategies for this year’s exams.
And when we get comments like these below, taking our in-person Seminars around the country to as many paraplanners as possible is doubly worthwhile.
Thanks to the events team for putting together another great series of Seminars this year. We look forward to seeing paraplanners at our remaining summer Seminars:
Chester: 28 June, Double Tree Hilton
Southampton: 12 July, Hilton at the Ageas Bowl
and in the Autumn in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Bristol, Newcastle and Colchester.
