The Chartered Insurance Institute saw an increase in both exams and qualifications for general insurance and financial services in 2025.

At almost 55,000, the number of exam sittings reached a decade-long peak last year and was the highest number seen by the professional body since 2020. The split was fairly even among exam sittings held by the CII, with 27,856 general insurance exams and 27,134 in finance.

The total number of qualifications completed in 2025 also increased by 4% to 15,182, with 4% increases in both general insurance (to 8,548) and personal finance (to 6,634).

Written personal finance exams increased by 1.5% to 5,048, with the biggest increase seen in the number of R06 completions.

Nicola Mellor, director of qualifications and assessment at the CII, said: “It’s brilliant to see this growth in the number of exams and qualifications completed last year.

“The results demonstrate an appetite for skills and progression within the sector, as well as our members’ continued commitment to professional development and upholding the highest professional standards across insurance and personal finance.

“It’s also really encouraging to see our increased focus on developing the pipeline of talent into financial planning reflected in these results.”
