The Paraplanner Club, the voluntary mentorship initiative by paraplanners for paraplanners, now has over 100 mentees registered.
Established in January 2021 by founders Sian Davies Cole and Chloe Phillips, the Club matches paraplanners looking for help with specific issues with mentors who are able to draw on their experience to help provide guidance.
There are 28 volunteer mentors typically helping paraplanners in a range of areas, from on the job issues through qualification help, to understanding their career options. The Club is also receiving enquiries from people outside of the financial services industry who want help in how to become a paraplanner.
The original founders were joined in 2022 by Sam Patterson, director of the Patterson Group, who became a director and head of Mentoring for the Club.
Describing how the Club has grown, Sian Davies Cole says: “What I think appeals to paraplanners is that we are truly independent. We are all paraplanners who have been in the profession for a number of years, so at least one of us has been through the situation other paraplanners are experiencing.
“Our mentors do this in their own time and are keen and committed to helping their peers. Often it just needs for someone to help unpack a situation or to validate someone’s feelings to make the difference.”
