Cardiff Seminar 30 April: The rise of protection in intergenerational wealth planning

11 February 2025

We are delighted to announce that we’re being joined at our Cardiff Technical Insight Seminar by Gregor Sked, Senior Protection Technical Manager at Royal London.

Under the session title of The Family Tree, Gregor will be helping paraplanners to understand how protection products fit with a client’s desire to pass on their wealth through the generations, and the technical know-how paraplanners must have to facilitate this.

The Family Tree

Over the last 10 to 15 years, we’ve seen a period of asset generation; from strong investment performance, growing property portfolios to first time buyers utilising help to buy schemes.

As we now enter a period of asset preservation, how can financial advisers and paraplanners help support clients to retain their financial resilience and ability to pass wealth onto future generations?

This session takes a detailed look at various protection technical planning points for incorporating protection advice into holistic financial planning.

Session objectives:

  • Have a better understanding of the intergenerational wealth planning opportunity
  • Be more confident explaining the role protection advice will play in helping your intergenerational planning with clients
  • Be able to describe some of the main protection planning opportunities available to clients at different life stages

We’ll also hear from the technical team at M&G, taking a deep dive into how paraplanners can build an effective IHT plan for their clients, taking into account that there is now a new asset in the mix – pensions – and where gifting, trusts and business relief etc now sit in the tactical hierarchy.

The M&G team will once again be bringing their pensions, tax and technical knowledge and expertise to our events around the country.

This year the theme of the team’s presentations will be: Creating an IHT plan in the new tax environment

This will be a deep dive into how paraplanners can build an effective IHT plan for their clients, taking into account that there is now a new asset in the mix – pensions – and where gifting, trusts and business relief etc now sit in the tactical hierarchy.

Our CPD accredited paraplanner-only events start in Exeter on 23 April and carry through to Newcastle on 26 November.

We have three new venues for 2025, as we look to bring the events closer to where you work. They are: Brighton (3 July), Warrington (26 June) and Newmarket, (23 Sept).
