The Seminars take the form of a mix of plenary speeches, presentations and more intimate workshops, where delegates were able to discuss issues and question speakers on points that were relevant to their day-to-day work.
Speakers from the FCA, FundsNetwork, Utmost Wealth and Invesco Perpetual amongst others took part in 2017.
It is important to us that we are giving you a valuable day out of the office and we’d like to thank everyone who filled in a feedback form at one of this year’s events, letting us know which speakers you liked and what you would like to see in the future.
We have taken all your comments on board and looked to structure the format and content of the events to reflect your needs, but we can tell you right now that we will be including more on tax and pensions, which was a key request we received in your feedback. We are also looking at exam preparation and suitability report sessions.

“This year’s Technical Insight Seminar in Manchester was great. I attended last year and this year’s event was even better. I love the structure of the event how you get split into smaller groups for the presentations throughout the day, it feels more personal and it is easier to interact with the presenters as well as others in the group. The sessions are just the right length of time, often making them short and snappy therefore keeping you engaged throughout.
This time round I particularly enjoyed listening to Michelle Hoskin from Standards International. Her passion and enthusiasm is infectious. Having been Paraplanning for almost 10 years now I have been involved from when the role was in its infancy. I have always felt passionate about the job and annoyed at it not getting the recognition it deserves. It’s not as bad as it once was, but I am completely on board with what Michelle is trying to achieve. We have been desperate for something like the Paraplanner Standard for many years now so it is refreshing to see that Michelle is taking this to the next level and beyond. This is a massive step in the right direction, and if anyone is going to get this done and done right Michelle is certainly the right person for it based on what I saw and heard from her yesterday. I think the whole room was enthused by what she had to say and is excited by the prospect of what is to come, so a massive thank you to Professional Paraplanner for pinning down such a great presenter.
As always all the other presentations were also very topical and relevant to Paraplanning. No matter how involved your role is as a Paraplanner at the firm you work, there is always something for everyone. The session by Barry at Utmost was great as we work with a lot of trusts, and so the presentation on the trials and tribulations of trust income was very beneficial. J.P. Morgan did a very interesting presentation on market disturbers which made you think about various asset classes that may not be that well known but could be a great place to invest due to the ageing population, and Paul at FundsNetwork did a great slot on pension beneficiary drawdown.
I took something away from every presentation and can’t recommend the Technical Insight Seminars enough. I’m already looking forward to next year’s event!”
