Jenny Ryan, paraplanner with Baigrie Davis, says one of the issues that she has to contend with in a busy office is time management, particularly when it comes to working on ways to improve process efficiencies or to work on projects – things outside of the scope of the day-to-day work stream.
Jenny says: “While this is a challenge, I think it is important to be able to make time to think outside the box, rather than just keeping up with the flow of everyday work.
“Recently, I wanted to make changes to some of the templates we use. I wanted to look at it from the perspective of the client, make changes and do a test run with the revised template. I had to find time to do that but I think it’s important to do so or nothing changes.
“The best way I’ve found to do that is to be organised and where necessary ask for the time. Hopefully your adviser will see the value in what you are trying to get the time to do. If they then see the improved output, for example a more reader-friendly report, then they are more likely to be able to help you find the time to do things like that in the future.”
