Climate not-for-profits should be on clients’ ESG radar

Allocating £600 a year to climate not-for-profits is 100 times more effective at reducing carbon dioxide levels than any other single climate action, according to a new report by Global Returns Project.

The findings show that the investment has more impact than switching to green energy, living car-free for a year and switching to a plant-based diet.
The report analysed the effectiveness of contributing to the Global Returns fund, a portfolio assembled by the Global Returns Project comprising a selection of the best not-for-profits tackling the climate crisis.
The findings of the report also showed a linear relationship between allocating money and it’s effectiveness compared to other actions with a £60 donation shown to be 10 times more effective.
Yan Swiderski, executive trustee and co-founder of the Global Returns Project, said: “People are increasingly asking themselves what they can do about the climate crisis. Of course, any climate action is important and should be encouraged but our study clearly shows that allocating a small amount to the best climate not-for-profits is one of the most effective actions an individual can take.
Swiderski added: “While climate apps, websites and articles often discuss the most effective individual actions, they almost never mention support for not-for-profits.”
